We've summarised the shire's fire safety requirements to help you make sure your property ticks all the boxes the first time around. These guidelines are current as of September 2024, but rules can change, so it's a good idea to check the council's website for the most up-to-date info. We'd love to work with you to ensure you stay safe and compliant!
Fire Breaks
Create a 3x4 metre dirt path all around your land's border. Make sure there are no dead ends.
Dead Stuff
Keep dead flammable stuff below 8 tonnes per hectare.
Grass Control
If you don't have livestock, cut the grass to under 5cm. Get rid of the clippings.
Safe Zone
Have a 20-metre cleared area around your buildings. Keep it free from stuff that burns easily.
Clean your gutters, roofs, and walls of anything flammable.
Within this 20-metre zone, the flammable material should weigh less than 2 tonnes per hectare.
Any tall trees in the zone should be trimmed from the bottom up to 2 metres.
Trees or bushes near buildings should be no taller than 2 metres or cut back to more than 2 metres away.
Serpentine-Jarrahdale Council requires you to complete firebreaks and fire-prevention works by December 1st and keep it that way until May 31st every year.
We cover all areas of the council including: Byford, Cardup, Darling Downs, Hopeland, Jarrahdale, Karrakup, Keysbrook, Mardella, Mundijong, Oakford, Oldbury, Serpentine and Whitby.
At Cutting Round Corners we aim to offer competitive pricing while ensuring the highest quality and value for our clients.
The preparation of firebreaks can differ from property to property. Factors that may affect the total cost depend on the type of equipment we use, the complexities of the firebreak service required, the location, and the property size.
All properties have unique features and some Shire regulations differ, so we'd like to invite you to request a personalised quote based on your specific requirements by clicking here.
Once the initial scope of work and maintenance are completed, regular maintenance becomes easier to manage, resulting in reduced costs for our clients over time.
